On Thursday 22 October ALDE MEP Peter Ježek hosted a public debate on migration policies in Prague with ALDE Vice-President Angelika Mlinar and ALDE MEPs Cecilia Wikström and Sophie in ‘t Veld as speakers. The event was the first of its kind to take place in the Czech Republic.
”The move yesterday by Turkey’s government to seize assets and control of an important media group in the run-up to the election shows that Turkey has crossed the danger line”, said ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson on Tuesday 27 October.
On Sunday 25 October the emerging liberal force Nowoczesna managed to enter the Polish Parliament for the first time with more than 7% of the votes. Less than 24 hours after the polling stations closed in Poland, ALDE Party and FNF Europe hosted a Liberal Breakfast to analyse the Polish elections.
With a celebration held in Zagreb, HNS marked the 25th anniversary of its political engagement and standing up for freedom in Croatia. 1,000 HNS officials and members participated in a programme that gave a homage to the party’s founding members and presented its main achievements.
MEPs have finally adopted the agreed package on the ‘Telecoms Single Market’ legislation, originally proposed by Neelie Kroes. The deal means that all roaming surcharges for travellers in the EU, whether for calls, texts or data, will in principle be completely abolished as of 15 June 2017.
The mandate of the current steering committee comes to an end at the upcoming ALDE Party Congress in Budapest in November. Therefore, individual members are invited to vote online for a new committee. There are nine candidates. Results will be announced next week.
“Killing Stereotypes and Finding Common Values and Points for Interaction” was the title of an international conference held in Moscow on Saturday 24 October, jointly organised by the ALDE Party and its member parties YABLOKO and Radikale Venstre.
The ALDE Party received four nominations for the two Vice Presidential positions on the ALDE GEN’s Steering Committee. Elections will be held online from 6 to 13 November 2015 and the results will be announced during the ALDE Party’s Congress in Budapest.
