As Poland currently struggles with democracy and rule of law, the ALDE Party Congress 2016 will be hosted in its capital, Warsaw. Ahead of the event, Nowoczesna’s Spokesperson Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz MP writes about the changes the EU needs and why it is relevant that the Congress takes places in Poland.
Venstre held their annual Congress on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November in Herning, Denmark. In his opening speech, the Prime Minister of Denmark and Venstre’s leader, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, said: ‘In the future, we must provide Denmark with higher growth, better welfare and more investments.’
Last weekend in the Netherlands, ALDE Party member VVD held its Congress. Preparing for the parliamentary elections that are scheduled for 15 March 2017, the VVD adopted its election programme and presented the list of parliamentary candidates, led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
A delegation from the ALDE Party Bureau, including Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP and Roman Jakič, made a visit to Macedonia and Kosovo last week to meet with member parties in the two countries, and gave their support to LDP Macedonia ahead of snap parliamentary elections taking place on 11 December 2016.

Individual members in Italy met last Saturday in their capital city Rome. The event was aimed at developing a political programme among Italian ALDE individual members about the environment and recycling waste. Members focused on good practices and how citizens can be involved in local policies.
Last week ALDE-CoR President Bart Somers spoke at a forum about radicalisation by the Real Instituto Elcano in Madrid. ‘Radicalisation is more a problem of totalitarianism than religion,’ he said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais, defending the successful integration model for his city Mechelen.
