Liberal PMs will discuss crucial topics such as the current status of Brexit and the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.
Almost 25 years after the ratification of the Maastricht Treaty, Liberals from all over Europe met at the invitation of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Berlin for a conference to discuss how to shape the future of Europe. ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP addressed the participants.
Romanian liberal party ALDE scored 5.6% in Romania’s parliamentary elections on Sunday. Iraqi Yazidi Islamic State survivors and activists Nadia Murad Basee and Lamiya Aji Bashar received the European Parliament’s 2016 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought during a ceremony in Strasbourg on Tuesday 13 December. They were the ALDE Group’s nominees for this year’s Sakharov Prize.
After almost two years of political scandal and instability, Macedonian citizens went to the polls on Sunday in early parliamentary elections held two years early as part of an EU-mediated agreement to end the paralysing political crisis. ALDE Party member LDP will hold at least 2 seats in the new Parliament.
Ensaf Haidar, wife of jailed Saudi blogger Raif Badawi and President of the Raif Badawi Foundation, was awarded with the 2016 Liberal International Prize for Freedom on behalf of her husband. Haidar said: ‘The fact that Raif Badawi has been awarded this prize is in a reminder of Raif’s own liberal message.’
Last week around 80 young liberals from across Europe gathered in the European Parliament in Brussels for a Winter Academy to discuss digitalisation, migration, education, among other topics. The event was organised by the European Liberal Youth – LYMEC and the Young Democrats for Europe YDE.
