It’s plenary week at the European Parliament. Brexit, emission measurements in the automotive sector and the end of roaming charges are some of the topics that our MEPs sitting in the ALDE Group are focusing on. Read the highlights of this week’s Liberal news from the European Parliament.
As this week the EU hosts a conference on the future of Syria and the region, around 80 MEPs and MPs have signed a letter calling on the EU to demand a say in Syria negotiations. A large majority of the signatories are members of the ALDE Group in the European Parliament or MPs from ALDE Party member parties.
Last weekend, Venstre held its Congress in Ålesund, Norway. Party leader Trine Skei Grande MPaddressed the Congress: “Politics is about finding solutions that are good for people instead of finding simple answers that fit well in media headlines.”

Our youth branch, European Liberal Youth LYMEC, have launched a political campaign to raise awareness and put pressure on European leaders about the issues that are important to young people as well as to promote the Liberal youth vision for Europe. Read more about “Setting the agenda for Europe.”
Last weekend the Italian country coordinator of ALDE Party Individual Members. Francesca Mercanti, participated in a debate on the challenges for the renewal of the European Union at the international meeting “Ideas for the 21st century” in Trieste, the northeast of Italy.
Local and regional authorities, led by ALDE Group in the Committee of the Regions member Michiel Rijsberman, are calling for simpler and more flexible rules to speed up the implementation of EU funds. This would make day-to-day running of operations easier for beneficiaries of EU funds such as SMEs.
