Liberals react to State of the Union speech
Today in the European Parliament, the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker offered the annual State of the Union address. Verhofstadt answered to him: “The fight is far from over. This is no time to sit back and to relax. People don’t want “this” Europe, they want to change Europe.”

Venstre re-enters the Norwegian Parliament
Norwegian citizens went to the polls on Monday 11 September to elect the new members of the Storting, the Norwegian Parliament. ALDE member party in Norway Venstre obtained 4.3% of the vote, overcoming the 4% threshold to enter the Parliament. The Liberal party will have 8 MPs in the new Storting.

‘United Democrats’ break through in Moscow as liberal opposition win seats in local elections
Liberals in Russia operating in tough political circumstances have cause to celebrate after a series of victories in the local and regional elections held in Moscow and across the country on 10 September. ALDE Party member parties in Russia, YABLOKO and Parnas, participated in a ‘United Democrats’ coalition.

NEOS offers a new perspective for Austria
On Friday 8 September NEOS launched their election campaign ahead of the upcoming Austrian legislative elections in Vienna. NEOS believes it is now time to offer to Austrians a new perspective and make sure that citizens’ perspective counts. Matthias Strolz proclaimed: “Austria is on the eve of a big change!”

Individual members to elect a new Steering Committee
The ALDE Party secretariat received seven nominations for the Steering Committee elections. Chris Pyak and Thalia Ntoka present themselves to run for a second mandate while the secretariat received nominations from Sébastien Martin, Ashmita Krishna, Enrico Cappelletti, Robert Schliessler and Jérôme Roche.

AKR takes up ministerial roles as new government is formed in Kosovo
After months of political deadlock, ALDE member party in Kosovo AKR has joined the new government in Kosovo with leader Behgjet Pacolli assuming the role of First Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. AKR will also hold three more Ministerial posts.

Young liberal leaders shape the future in Podgorica
Last weekend young European liberal leaders from LYMEC’s member organisations from all over Europe and beyond gathered in Podgorica. The goal of the meeting was to share knowledge, discuss best practices and forge closer and stronger partnerships that will create a new generation of politicians in Europe.
