More than 6 months after the Dutch parliamentary elections, four political parties under the leadership of VVD have reached an agreement to establish a new coalition government. “Trust in the future” is the motto of the government formed by ALDE members VVD and D66 together with CDA and the Christian Union.
Last weekend our Danish member party Venstre, led by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, held their annual Congress. As local elections in Denmark will take place on 21 November, Løkke Rasmussen took the chance to encourage the candidates running in the elections: “I trust each and every one of you.”
Last Sunday Luxembourg held local elections to elect the communal councils of the 102 municipalities of the country. Demokratesch Partei, the party of Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, holds ground winning a total of 108 seats across the whole country, two more than in the last local elections.
On Saturday 7 October more than 80 individual members assembled in Maastricht to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of the European Union. Hosted at the regional government building, members looked back to the achievements of the past 25 years and forward to the next 25 years.
Rik Daems has been elected as the new leader of the ALDE Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. ALDE Party President said: “I look forward to working with him to maintain the close cooperation between the ALDE Party and its groupings in the respective Parliamentary Assemblies.”

He will be specialising in data analysis: “This traineeship will allow me to apply my expertise in political science and statistical computing while working at the very heart of European governance.”
