On Sunday’s legislative elections in Austria, NEOS obtained 5.2% of the vote, positioning themselves from 6th to 4th force in Austria. ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP said: “NEOS returns to the Austrian Parliament, renewed with enthusiasm and determination to reshape Austrian politics.”
On Sunday 15 October, Estonia held local elections with both ALDE Party member parties, the Centre Party and the Reform Party, performing well and maintaining their leading positions. Centre Party obtained 27.3% country-wide and Reform Party obtained 19.5%, its best result ever in local elections.
Thousands of members of Fianna Fail convened in Dublin over the weekend for the party’s 78th Árd Fheis. This year’s Árd Fheis, the first since the snap general election in 2016 was an important opportunity for the party to reflect on the progress made since doubling their seats in the Parliament.
The Liberal International Manifesto 2017 was launched in Russia at an event in Moscow on 14 October at the HQ of Yabloko, ALDE Party and LI member in Russia. Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova said: “This is possible only thanks to joint values, as all Liberal International parties are like-minded people.”
ALDE Party Vice President Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP has been awarded the Honorary Sign of his Bulgarian home town Sevlievo for his outstanding services, dedication and active public engagement aimed at the young people in the municipality. Kyuchyuk is also the Chairman of the youth branch of ALDE member MRF.
Last weekend over 130 young liberals from all over Europe gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria, for the Autumn Congress of the European Liberal Youth – LYMEC. The Congress adopted resolutions on matters ranging from the Western Balkans enlargement process to the role of education in combating youth unemployment.
From 6 to 8 October Croatian ALDE member HNS conducted its annual youth summer school in the coastal town of Vodice. This year’s objective was to hold a strategic planning workshop on talent management in political parties and gather leading members from their youth organisation.
