Subject: Letter of nomination for Monika Zajkova for the position of ALDE Party Vice President

Dear delegates and ALDE Party fellow members,

It is with profound pleasure to nominate on behalf of Liberalno-demokratska partija (LDP), the only liberal party in North Macedonia, its party president Ms. Monika Zajkova MP for the position of ALDE Party Vice President to be elected at the upcoming Congress of our European Party in Estoril.

Monika Zajkova is from the younger generation of European liberal leaders, active in the European liberal family for many years. She currently serves her second mandate in the National Parliament where she is recognized as the liberal voice within a highly polarized political scene, being a leading member of the European Affairs Committee and national delegations to the OSCE and number of EU member states. Her uncompromising attachment to the values of an open and tolerant liberal society and European values made her stand out among the political leaders in the country. When riots broke out in 2022 related to the parliamentary debate on the EU accession process, despite the threats on her life, she fiercely stood her ground on the need to adjust the national narrative and accelerate the European integration. For her positive role in the process, she received a personal recognition from the presidents of the European Council and the European Commission. In a country and a region dominated by social exclusion and stigmas, she has shown uncompromising dedication in publicly supporting of the individuals from different ethnic background, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or suffering from disability.

In her previous work as the LDP youth president, she elevated the position of our youth organization both on national and European level, working closely with the leadership of the European Liberal Youth. She graduated from numerous leadership programs, including ALDE’s The Alliance of Her and ELF’s EU Mentorship. Over the years she has been highly active on all levels in the international liberal family and was elected a member of LI’s Human Rights Committee. Convinced that the liberal project in Europe transcends national boundaries and depends on mutual exchange of knowhow, the past years she was personally involved in increasing the party’s international engagement with liberal political parties, foundations and think tanks all over Europe. She has set up direct collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Centre Party International Foundation, Danish Liberal Democracy Programme and VVD.

Believing in a more citizen friendly European Union, Monika is committed to work with the ALDE President, the colleagues in the Bureau and the Renew Europe towards reforming the EU in the way the ALDE membership envisions and where EU will lead Europe at large to play a more significant geopolitical role in the world.

We acknowledge the efforts by all in ALDE to ensure that the European liberal family remains united and resist the external challenges aimed at creating different tier of membership. In that sense, Monika always stood for a more dynamic approach in the EU integration process, where solely on fulfilment of Copenhagen criteria for membership and through accelerated staged integration full membership will be achieved by all candidate countries.

As a proud ALDE member aiming to contribute to ALDE’s further successes we are nominating our party president for the ALDE Bureau. We are particularly proud that her nomination enjoys strong support of the Liberal Network of Southeast Europe (LIBSEEN), and individually from the following parties in the region NS (Bosnia-Herzegovina), MRF (Bulgaria), Centar (Croatia), HNS (Croatia), HSLS (Croatia), PDK (Kosovo), LPCG (Montenegro), USR (Romania), and PSG (Serbia), in hope that it will meet your support and vote in Estoril.
